Groenbast ontwikkelt zich beter dan Dolberg: ‘Een mooi compliment’
Joey Groenbast maakte vorig seizoen zijn debuut in het eerste elftal van Go Ahead Eagles. De jonge verdediger is dit seizoen, meestal als rechtsback, een vaste waarde in het elftal van trainer Hans de Koning. Groenbast is zelfs de speler die in de eerste seizoenshelft de meeste progressie heeft geboekt, zo meent SciSports.
Dat bedrijf heeft onderzoek gedaan naar welke speler in de Eredivisie de meeste progressie heeft gemaakt. Daar kwam dus niet Kasper Dolberg uit, maar dat bleek Groenbast te zijn. “Ik heb het rijtje gezien. Ik ben dus de speler die het meest is gegroeid in de eredivisie. Dat is wel een heel mooi compliment. Ik voel ook dat ik flinke stappen heb gemaakt. Ik ben zekerder geworden. Eerder ging er nog wel eens iets mis, maar je kunt me nu zelden nog op grote fouten betrappen”, zegt de verdediger van Go Ahead Eagles tegen de Stentor.
“Ik heb lekker veel wedstrijden gespeeld. Eigenlijk veel meer dan ik voor dit seizoen verwacht had”, gaat Groenbast verder. “Je hebt minuten nodig om te groeien als speler. Dat zie je bij mij heel goed. Ik denk dat ik me vooral daardoor sterk aan het ontwikkelen ben. Het gaat ook sneller met me dan ik had verwacht. Dat maakt me wel blij.”

Hoe kan je progressie nou weer meten?
Ik ben ook wel benieuwd naar de waarde van dit soort cijfers en inderdaad de meetbaarheid. Het is ook nog eens progressie meten en niet b v het aantal goede balcontacten. Als dat zo zou zijn, dan zou Groenblast als hij vorig jaar 10x over de bal heen schoot en dit jaar niet, enorme progressie hebben gemaakt. :D
Iedere speler wordt gescoord op bepaalde statistieken. Daarop worden aankopen gedaan. Volgens mij heeft AZ zo'n Amerikaan in dienst die alles volgens statistieken doet. Football manager als voorbeeld
Ze hebben bij SciSports een SciSkill-index om te meten hoe goed een speler is. Bestaat uit veel factoren, geen idee hoe hij precies op is gebouwd. De progressie is niks anders dan de groei in die index.
'The SciSkill Index of a player is based on the team result, not the statistics of the player itself. Therefore, when teams field players with a large difference in quality, it is possible for players to ‘ride along’ on performances of their more talented teammates. However, the SciSkill Index proves to be a good way to illustrate whether a player is bringing its team down or raising the level when he is on the field.' Rechtstreeks van hun eigen website. Die index zegt dus eigenlijk helemaal niks over een speler.

Dus er zitten ook een paar individuele factoren in, zoals speelminuten en frequentie.
Dit is zo relatief. Als hij een basis niveau van een 3 heeft en uitgroeit naar een 6 is dat een grotere groei dan Dolberg die al een basis heeft van een 7,5 en naar een 8,5 is gegaan.
Maar daar gaat het ook om. Het gaat om progressie in dit artikel. Heeft niks met relativiteit te maken, maar een ander onderwerp dan jij denkt. Dan kan Dolberg nog zo goed zijn, hij toont op dit moment feitelijk minder progressie dan Groenbast.

Het gaat inderdaad om de ontwikkeling. Een absolute topspeler die in een matig functionerend team speelt, maakt ook een slechte ontwikkeling door. De rating van pakweg Lionel Messi zal deze week ook omlaag gegaan zijn, na de 4-0.
Het zegt dus inderdaad niks over de absolute kwaliteit van de speler.
Wat een slecht en onduidelijk verhaal. Meer gegroeid ten op zichte van wat? De eerste competitiewedstrijd van het seizoen? Ten op zichtte van vorig seizoen (alsof Scisports zoveel gegevens over Dolberg of Groenebast heeft om uberhaubt iets te meten). Nu sluit ik de progressie niet uit hoor, maar enige achtergrond informatie zou fijn op basis waarvan men tot deze conclusie komt.
Kijk op hun website. Ze meten van alles, bijvoorbeeld speelminuten en teamresultaten. Simpel gezegd: als Groenbast vorig jaar elke derde wedstrijd in viel en alleen verloor, en nu elke tweede wedstrijd in de basis staat en regelmatig wint, dan maakt hij een grote ontwikkeling door.
Lekker uitlokkende titel ook. Ontwikkeld zich beter als Dolberg. Net of je die spelers met elkaar kunt vergelijken.
Volgens statistici dus wel.
Gelukkig voor alle voetballiefhebbers is voetbal geen exacte wetenschap en mogen we dit bericht derhalve ter kennisgeving aannemen.
En op basis van wat zou Dolberg in hemelsnaam de eerste moeten zijn? Sterk begin maar gewoon een dip, en dan zou die dus eerste moeten zijn? Lijkt me sterk.
Alsof het verrassend is dat Dolberg niet het meeste progressie zou hebben geboekt.. Het is niet alsof Dolberg dit seizoen pas zijn kwaliteiten laat zien, en daar stappen in heeft gezet, het is meer dat hij deze kwaliteiten nu ook in de Eredivisie toont, en dat op zich is natuurlijk wel een grote stap.
Qua spel en mentaal heeft hij nog geen grote stappen geboekt t.o.v. het begin van het seizoen, maar dat hoeft ook niet.
Hij is immers pas 18.
Even los van het meten: Groenbast doet het erg goed de laatste maanden. Vind hem wekelijks een erg solide verdediger. Precies wat Go Ahead nodig heeft deze tijd. Veel beter dan bijvoorbeeld Achenteh.

10. Zakaria El Azzouzi (Sparta Rotterdam)

20-year-old Zakaria El Azzouzi is a loanee from Ajax currently playing for Sparta Rotterdam. So far, he missed only one Eredivisie match due to a injury, starting the other 17. He scored four goals and gave one assist, but hasn’t contributed to a goal since November 4th, when he scored in the 3-1 victory against Heerenveen. This is the second time the striker has been loaned out, after playing for FC Twente in the second half of last season (4 goals in 13 matches).
9. Matthijs de Ligt (Ajax (Reserves))

One of the revelations of this season at Ajax is undoubtedly Matthijs de Ligt. The 17-year-old central defender has seen a rapid development, starting the season in Ajax U19 and is even allowed to still play for the highest junior team next season. However, this season, De Ligt is a starting player for the Ajax Reserves playing in the Jupiler League and even started two matches for the senior squad in the Europa League. He has already managed to secure a regular place in the match squad of manager Peter Bosz. His SciSkill value will only get higher once he makes more minutes in Ajax 1.
8. Davinson Sánchez (Ajax)

The 20-year-old Davinson Sánchez has hardly known any adjustment problems at Ajax. The Colombian central defender made his starting debut in the second game of the season and hasn’t missed a minute since. A physically strong and quick defender, he is especially strong defensively, but also scored three times already this season. He especially showed to be a weapon during set pieces.
7. Rick van Drongelen (Sparta Rotterdam)

Rick van Drongelen became the first player ever with thirteen Eredivisie duels for Sparta before his eighteenth birthday, according to VI. The central defender has made great progress and is named with thick letters in the book of scout Piet de Visser. He missed only two Eredivisie games this season and keeps the more experienced Bart Vriends behind him. What is his ceiling?
6. Sofyan Amrabat (FC Utrecht)

When Bart Ramselaar moved from Utrecht to PSV last summer, the question was who the club was going to purchase to replace Ramselaar. Manager Erik ten Hag had the answer: he didn’t see the need to spent money on a new player and saw 20-year-old Sofyan Amrabat as Ramselaar’s successor. Amrabat acknowledges that he is not as technically refined as Ramselaar and that he plays in the position of central midfielder in FC Utrecht’s 4-4-2 system in a different manner than his predecessor. The midfielder is a typical box-to-box midfielder who can do his part, both defensively and offensively. He is still waiting for his first Eredivisie goal this season, but already gave three assists.
5. Oussama Idrissi (FC Groningen)

Oussama Idrissi’s strong growth is mainly due to the first quarter the season. The 20-year-old winger scored three times and gave an assist in the first nine games of the season. After that, he missed a few games with a foot injury and lost his place in the starting eleven. After the winter break, Idrissi was forced to start on the bench in Heracles’ home defeat against Groningen (1-4).
4. Giovanni Troupée (FC Utrecht)

FOX Sports presenter and reporter Pascal Kamperman thought Giovanni Troupée was one of biggest talents of 2016. The SciSkill Index also sees the 18-year-old right wing back making a strong development. Compared with the last six months, his SciSkill score grew by as much as 21.6. With two goals and two assists, Troupée already contributed nicely to FC Utrecht’s strong series of matches. Since his goal against Go Ahead Eagles (15 October) they have not lost a single game.
3. Justin Hoogma (Heracles)

Presumed to be second choice behind Ramon Zomer this season, but the opposite turned out true. In the away match against Arouca Zomer picked up a knee injury and Justin Hoogma replaced him ever since. Hoogma is only eighteen, but, along with five other field players in the Eredivisie, played every match in its entirety this season. Hoogma is also the only field player in Europe under 20 who has not missed a minute. The Heracles defender shares the lead with three goalkeepers: Alban Lafont (Toulouse), Gianluigi Donnarumma (AC Milan) and Adam Jakubech (Spartak Trnava).
2. Kasper Dolberg (Ajax)

After the departure of Arek Milik, Bertrand Traoré was brought in this summer as Ajax’ new number nine. Traoré began the first league match as a striker of Ajax, but a week later someone else occupied the central forward position: the then 18-year-old Dane Kasper Dolberg. He arrived in the starting eleven quite out of nowhere after getting the chance from new trainer Peter Bosz to prove himself in the pre-season. Since then, Dolberg has been the number one striker for Ajax, scoring eight times in the Eredivise and also being important in the Europa League. However, his last goal dates from 20 November, when he scored a hattrick against NEC.

The 21-year-old Joey Groenbast played in the youth of Feyenoord and Sparta Rotterdam, before joining Go Ahead Eagles in the summer of 2014, where he initially joined the reserve team. On March 4th of last year, manager Hans de Koning let him debut as a right back in the home match against FC Emmen. In the first half of the current season, Groenbast played the full 90 minutes fourteen times in the Eredivisie.
